Minnesota has a long and proud tradition of philanthropy, and Give to the Max Day is a shining example of this generosity. This statewide day of giving, held annually on the Thursday before Thanksgiving, is an opportunity for Minnesotans to come together and support the causes that matter most to them.

Give to the Max Day was founded in 2009 by GiveMN, a nonprofit dedicated to connecting donors with causes they care about. Since its inception, Give to the Max Day has raised over $500 million for tens of thousands of nonprofits and schools across Minnesota.

This year, Give to the Max Day will be celebrated on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Early Giving is open now, so you can start making donations today.

Why Give to the Max Day Matters

Give to the Max Day allows Minnesotans to make a direct impact on the communities they live, work, and play in. By donating to local nonprofits and schools, we can help to provide essential services, support education, and promote arts and culture. Give to the Max Day also helps to raise awareness of the many different organizations that are tackling causes important to Minnesota.

Through Give to the Max Day, we can feel the power of collective giving as thousands of Minnesotans come together to make a positive impact in this fun and rewarding way.

How to Get Involved

There are many ways to get involved in Give to the Max Day. You can make a donation online, by phone, or in person. You can also volunteer your time to help with event planning or day-of activities. No matter how you choose to participate, every gift, big or small, makes a difference.

Here are some ideas for finding organizations to support:
  • Think about the causes that are important to you. Are you passionate about the environment, education, or the arts? There are many organizations working on these and other important issues.
  • Search the GiveMN website. They have a searchable database of thousands of nonprofits and schools across Minnesota. You can also check out this donor's guide they put together: Donor's Guide to GTMD23
  • Talk to your friends and family. They may be able to recommend organizations that they have supported in the past.

Minnesota Nonprofits to Give Back To

Here are a few of the many Minnesota nonprofits that you can support on Give to the Max Day:

Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund

The mission of the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund is to assist and support the cancer community in Minnesota by funding research, prevention, treatment and other programs relating to the cancer community’s principal needs. What makes this Fund so unique is that less than 10% of the monies raised are spent on administrative costs, making it one of the most efficient uses of your charitable donation. Grants given are spent on technology and tools that enhance early detection of cancer, new programs promoting research to help prevent cancer relapses, projects that demonstrate research in the area of cancer, and programs that enhance the lives of Minnesota’s cancer community by providing aid and assistance.

Wings of the North

Wings of the North is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization founded in February of 1998. Their mission is to be the premier organization in the Twin Cities dedicated to inspiring our community to explore aviation and space through its history, its heroes and technology. Their current fundraising efforts are dedicated to preserving historical artifacts and creating a space for the community to enjoy them in a volunteer, veteran-run museum.

Family Pathways

Family Pathways’ Family Pathways works alongside people to enhance lives through a continuum of essential services and—together with community—champion positive social change. Their support services provide healthy food access, domestic and sexual violence prevention and victim services, supervised visitation, and services for older adults and caregivers.

Leech Lake Legacy

Leech Lake Legacy is an animal welfare organization that empowers Native American communities to enrich the lives of animals by providing resources and sharing information. Leech Lake Legacy believes that by working together and collaborating with a larger network of animal welfare organizations in Minnesota, we will be able to do more for the animals and the pet owners of Leech Lake Reservation. Their services include  spay and neuter clinics, vaccinations and illness/injury treatments, and surrender and transport services to partner shelters, rescues, and foster homes.

Give to the Max Day is a great opportunity to make a difference in your community, both today and year-round. If you're looking to work with a bank that prides itself on giving back to our communities, contact us and we can share more about our ongoing initiatives.
